<br />MINUTES Page 14 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-January 3,2005 <br /> <br />Recommendation for City Council Consideration: <br /> <br />a. Schedule consideration of a resolution amending the City's Gift Policy on <br />the January 18, 2005 City Council agenda. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of <br />Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to Congress in <br />1968. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned In memory of <br />Congressman Robert Matsui. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Robert <br />Babcock, who was an active resident of the Floresta neighborhood. She noted that it was a <br />quiet New Year's Eve, and she credited the Police Department with providing stepped-up <br />enforcement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Glaze expressed his appreciate to the Public Works staff for their prevention <br />measures prior to the heavy rains. He noted that the front page of the San Leandro Times <br />carried the story and reported no incidents of flooding. He stated that they did a remarkable <br />job and should be commended. Councilmember Glaze thanked the City Manager and staff <br />for the new clock in Washington Manor. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that Commissioner Ernie Low has resigned his position <br />on the Library-Historical Commission, and he hoped that a resolution will be presented to him <br />at a future meeting. He commented that he has had a noise monitor in his backyard for the <br />past 60 days, and he has sent out the results to his Council colleagues. Councilmember <br />Santos requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Merle Etherton, a resident <br />of Mulford Gardens for over 50 years and a former president of the Mulford Gardens <br />Improvement Association. <br /> <br />Mayor Young requested that a review of the agenda format be referred to the City Council <br />Rules and Communications Committee. She noted that there was no proper place to amend <br />tonight's agenda to add the staff report on medical marijuana. It was the consensus of the <br />Council to refer the matter to the City Council Rules and Communications Committee. <br /> <br />Mayor Young requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of the tens of <br />thousands of victims of the tsunami that ravaged Southeast Asia. She noted that she <br />forwarded to the Council a report from the U.S. Conference of Mayors on the tragedy. <br /> <br />Mayor Young wished a happy birthday to Councilmember Tony Santos. <br />
