<br />MINUTES <br />City of San Leandro City Council Special Meeting-March 15, 2005 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />stated that he was humbled by the number of votes he received, and he thanked the voters of <br />San Leandro for their confidence and understanding of the issues. Councilmember Santos <br />expressed hope of having the support of the community in carrying out the mission ofthe City <br />Council to maintain the quality of life for its residents, and he pledged to continue to be <br />accessible and return all phone calls and emails. <br /> <br />Councilman Glaze presented newly-elected District 4 Councilmember Joyce Starosciak with <br />a personalized City Council polo shirt. These polo shirts for the Council were a tradition that <br />began a few years ago. <br /> <br />Mayor Young stated that last year, a new pin was created exclusively for the City Council. <br />She presented one of the pins to Councilmember Starosciak and welcomed her to the team. <br /> <br />Mayor Young presented Judge Hora with a gift basket of Ghirardelli chocolates III <br />appreciation for swearing-in the new City Councilmembers. <br /> <br />4. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Usually no action will be taken by the City Council. Public comments are limited to 3 <br />minutes per speaker, subject to adjustment by the Mayor. The public is invited to make any <br />comments related to Agenda items, or other items of public interest, at this time. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovich, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing concerns that <br />the presence of members of the press in the audience were not announced and commenting <br />that he placed his name on the ballot to give voters a choice. He requested a private audience <br />with Judge Hora. <br /> <br />5. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilman Glaze thanked his wife Teresa, who is his "soft side," as well as his daughter <br />Crystal and son Brian. He stated that he is blessed to have a wonderful family. He <br />acknowledged his mother-in-law and father-in-law in the audience. <br /> <br />Councilman Glaze thanked Judge Peggy Hora, the community and the residents of District 4. <br />He pointed to individuals like Lou Filipovich and Carey Walker, who have been difficult at <br />times but have also made him think. He thanked the District 4 Board and Commission <br />members for representing the City, and he thanked the City staff for putting up with his tough <br />questions. <br /> <br />He commended Ellen Corbett for being one of the finest Assembly representatives the City <br />has ever had. Councilman Glaze pointed to the difficulties experienced by the City in the <br />first two years after the 1996 election: the City Manager was replaced, staffing had to be <br />rebuilt and the City had to be brought back together. He pointed to the role played by Mayor <br />Young and her support and assistance to him and the Council in making the necessary <br />changes during that difficult period. <br />
