Report on Closed Session Actions Taken <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />11. CITY COUNCIL REPORTS <br /> <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br /> <br />On behalf of Mayor Young, Vice Mayor Badger announced that the Bay Area Air <br />Quality Management District (BAAQMD) will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this <br />year. Mayor Young is a member of the BAAQMD Board of Directors and Chair of its <br />Public Outreach Committee. The 50th Anniversary celebration will be held in June, and <br />the guest speaker will be former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator <br />Christine Todd Whitman. Vice Mayor Badger presented a short video by BAAQMD <br />entitled, "Sparing the Air for a Healthier Future." He noted that San Leandro is a <br />member of the coalition of "Spare the Air" cities. <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant commented on recent commemorations: the birthday of Cesar Chavez <br />on March 31 and the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, <br />1968. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she supported the concept of a request for an <br />extension of the public comment period for the EBMUD Draft EIR. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that there will be a public meeting on the EBMUD <br />Bayside Groundwater Project on April 20. He indicated that he examined the sound wall in <br />the Timothy Drive neighborhood, spoke to some residents, and stated that it appeared the <br />fence was in compliance with the project specifications. Councilmember Santos commented <br />that during a baseball game at Stenzel Park yesterday, there was a group of people smoking in <br />and around the playfield. He asked if anything can be done to curtail smoking in the City's <br />parks, especially during athletic events, and noted that San Francisco had recently imposed <br />such a restriction. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commented that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of <br />Fred Korematsu, a Japanese-American who opposed the World War II internment, and in <br />memory of Pope John Paul II. <br />
