<br />MINUTES Page 9 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-April 18, 2005 <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos continued his comments on the Consolidated Plan, stating that he <br />feels it will be difficult for the City to meet its five-year requirements given the cutbacks at <br />the federal level. He expressed hoped that people in need will be remembered. He <br />commented on the letter from the Foothill Sportsmen's Club regarding rainbow trout in San <br />Leandro Creek and requested that staff research the request. Councilmember Santos <br />commented that George and Mavis Silva celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and asked <br />if Mayor Young could send them a letter of congratulations. Mayor Young indicated that she <br />would send them a letter. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens noted that the research on the rainbow trout was performed by a <br />resident on Woodland Avenue. The resident wrote a poem that Councilmember Stephens <br />will pass on to the Mayor. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak announced that the City Engineering and Transportation <br />Department will be hosting information sessions at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April <br />19 regarding the Manor Branch Library and will discuss the construction time line and impacts <br />of the project. She also announced that on Wednesday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m., the East Bay <br />Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) will hold a board meeting at Washington Manor Middle <br />School to discuss the Draft Environmental hnpact Report for the Bayside Groundwater <br />Project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine referred to Mr. Perez's comments and stated that she would like the <br />City to consider the impacts of illuminated wall signs when reviewing future development <br />applications and possibly consider a review of the sign standards. Councilmember Nardine <br />commented that she received a call from a school crossing guard at Purdue and Farnsworth. <br />The crossing guard requested that a median safety sign be installed at the intersection, and <br />Councilmember Nardine provided his name and phone number for staff to follow-up with <br />him. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant commented that former Berkeley City Councilmember Margaret <br />Breland passed away recently from breast cancer. Ms. Breland used her position on the City <br />Council to advocate for women's health concerns and affordable housing issues. <br />Councilmember Grant announced that April Showers, a grassroots effort to provide services <br />to the homeless community, will celebrate its first anniversary at the Community Church on <br />Bancroft on Saturday, April 23. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commented on the problem of pet waste littering the sidewalks. He <br />suggested printing an article in the City Newsletter, reminding people to clean up after their <br />pets. <br />
