CITY COUNCIL REPORTS <br /> <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant reported that Ophelia Basgal, Executive Director for the <br />Alameda County Housing Authority, has resigned and has accepted a position at PG&E. <br />A nationwide recruitment will be conducted for a new executive director. <br />Councilmember Grant further reported that at its last meeting, the Board performed <br />annual comparisons of Section 8 programs, and San Leandro had a 5% increase in <br />Section 8 housing tenants, from 1,135 to 1,192. She commented that Union Bank has <br />created a new program for municipalities that will produce a higher yield than the LAIF. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos reported that the Alameda County Area Agency on Aging will <br />hold its 2005 Healthy Aging Faire on Wednesday, September 14 at Centennial Hall in <br />Hayward. Assembly Member Alberto Torrico and Senator Sheila Kuehl will be <br />featured speakers at the event. <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Business Development Committee Meeting of July 21, 2005. Accepted as <br />submitted. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos inquired about former Fire Station #11 and whether the <br />agreement to transfer of the property to another entity contains any provision that <br />would benefit the Mulford Gardens Improvement Association. Mr. Jermanis will <br />provide a brief report on the subject. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented regarding the First Time Homebuyer Program <br />and asked ifthere is any possibility to make the loans interest free. <br /> <br />2. City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of July <br />14,2005. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported that a subcommittee appointed by the Liaison Committee <br />of herself and Trustees Davis and Heystek worked together on an event called <br />Walk and Roll to School, which will be held on October 5, 2005 at Jefferson <br />SchooL Mayor Young asked for a commitment from the Council to attend the <br />event. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is participating and will <br />provide information and give-aways to all the students at Jefferson. Jefferson <br />Principal Larry Johnson has worked on notification with the parent/teacher <br />groups. The media will be invited to attend to cover the event, and Mayor Young <br />will prepare a proclamation. <br /> <br />
