MINUTES <br /> Page 12 <br />May 1, 2006 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting— <br /> <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant thanked the Council for selecting her as their vice mayor. She asked <br />for an update on the status of the City’s red light cameras, including yellow light timing. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak thanked Vice Mayor Badger for his service as vice mayor and <br />for helping her in her first year on the Council. She commented that she received a letter <br />from the Washington Manor Baseball League announcing it will be hosting the 16 year-old <br />division for the Senior Babe Ruth Tournament at the San Leandro Ballpark and requesting <br />funding assistance. Mayor Young noted that with the consensus of the Council, a donation <br />could be made from the Mayor’s Community Fund. There was consensus of the Council to <br />do so. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she has received requests from constituents and <br />community homeowner associations to use the City logo for newsletters and event <br />announcements. Mayor Young suggested referring the matter to the Rules and <br />Communications Committee. It was the consensus of the Council to refer the matter to the <br />Rules Committee. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak requested that tonight’s meeting be adjourned in memory of Ann <br />Marshall, wife of long-time Recreation and Parks Commissioner Dick Marshall. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens expressed interest in receiving an update on the red-light camera <br />program. He requested a brief report from staff on the anticipated completion date for the <br />MacArthur Boulevard Streetscape project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that the process for vice mayor selection should be <br />changed, and the position should be rotated with each Council member given the <br />opportunity to serve as vice mayor. He commented on Assembly Bill 2987 related to <br />telecommunications. Councilmember Santos suggested the Council consider providing <br />some recognition to local residents returning from military service in the Middle East. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos asked if the seismic retrofit program under SB 537 was still in place <br />and how many structures were retrofitted under the program. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos requested tonight’s meeting be adjourned in memory of Spencer <br />Nahm, long-time businessman and uncle of former Councilmember Paul Nahm. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented on a request she received from the Alameda County Child Abuse <br />Prevention Council for a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. <br />She encouraged everyone to visit the Child Abuse Prevention Council’s very informative <br />website. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that she and Assistant City Manager Steve Hollister will be <br />traveling to Sacramento for Public Safety Memorial Week, and she asked new Vice Mayor <br />Grant to emcee the City’s Cinco de Mayo event in her absence. <br /> <br /> <br />13.
