<br />MINUTES Page 4 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-January 17, 2006 <br /> <br />Oakland. Mr. Trejo commented that traffic Issues would worsen if the bridge was <br />constructed. <br /> <br />Thomas Saunders, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council commenting that <br />traffic problems would be exacerbated by a bridge built over San Leandro Creek. <br /> <br />Sharon Cornu, IFPTE Local 21, addressed the City Council regarding the issue of health <br />benefits in the current negotiations between the City and SLCEA. Ms. Cornu expressed the <br />union's willingness to work with the City and pointed out that last year SLCEA offered to roll <br />over its contract for a year without improvements. <br /> <br />Penny Peck, Senior Librarian, City of San Leandro, addressed the City Council regarding <br />pay equity for library workers, a workforce which is overwhelmingly female. Ms. Peck <br />commented that when compared to other professional jobs with similar educational <br />requirements, library workers make much less, and she noted that the pay for San Leandro's <br />library workers is behind the market compared to other libraries in the East Bay. <br /> <br />Keith Weiner, Building Inspector, City of San Leandro, addressed the City Council as a <br />member of the SLCEA negotiating team. Mr. Weiner commented that he feels the union's <br />requests have been reasonable, and he stated that members do not want their medical benefits <br />reduced. <br /> <br />Bob Britton, IFPTE Local 21, addressed the City Council, commenting that about one-half <br />of the members represented by Local 21 were in attendance. Mr. Britton noted that the union <br />agreed to take no salary increase for one year, and it is now behind and trying to catch up. Mr. <br />Britton commented on the number of cities and counties in the Bay Area that provide health <br />care at the Kaiser rate, and he stated that Local 21 members do not want to pay for their health <br />care costs. <br /> <br />The City Council took a short recess to allow audience members to exit the Chamber. <br /> <br />Adan Alonzo, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing concern <br />regarding the proposed bridge over San Leandro Creek connecting Frederick Road in San <br />Leandro with Bergedo Drive in Oakland. Mr. Alonzo asked his neighbors in the audience to <br />stand. Mr. Alonzo requested the Council consider a resolution opposing the proposed project <br />by the City of Oakland. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovich, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council regarding election and <br />voting issues. <br /> <br />6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager Jermanis commented on the feasibility study commissioned by the City of <br />Oakland for creating additional ingress/egress for the Sobrante Park neighborhood. Mr. <br />Jermanis stated that one of the options identified by Oakland's consultant was to build a <br />
