<br />MINUTES <br />City of San Leandro City COWlcil and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-April 3, 2006 <br /> <br />Page 10 <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commented that at the last meeting, he reported that five San Leandro <br />High School students had qualified for the nECA Nationals. Now, only three will be able to <br />advance, and Vice Mayor Badger stated he will assist with the judging to narrow the field. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant asked whether the City or Union Pacific is responsible for notification <br />of the railroad crossing closures. Mr. J ermanis indicated that UP will post large signs at the <br />railroad crossings showing the dates of the closures but is relying on the City to provide other <br />necessary notification. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant commented that the City Council made a policy statement not to take a <br />position on international relations. She suggested to the citizens who expressed concerns <br />regarding the persecution of Fa1un Gong practitioners in China that they do outreach to Bay <br />Area-based organizations which handle international causes, such as Amnesty International <br />and Global Exchange. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant asked that the meeting be adjourned in memory of Loretta Romani, <br />mother of Greg Romani. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos requested that the meeting be adjourned in memory of Gordon <br />Greene, former president of Farrelly Pond Homeowners Association, and Bill Waidler, <br />community activist and former president ofthe Bonaire Civic League. <br /> <br />Mayor Young noted that there are three inactive advisory bodies listed in the San Leandro <br />Administrative Code. She requested that they be referred to the Rules and Communications <br />Committee to determine whether they are still necessary. There was consensus of the Council <br />to do so. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that tonight's meeting will also be adjourned in memory of Tony <br />Nasimento and Bill Diederich, father of Mary Evans. <br /> <br />13. ADJOURN <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at 8:42 p.m. <br />· In memory of Tony Nasimento. <br />· In memory of Bill Diederich. <br />· In memory of Loretta Romani. <br />· In memory of Gordon Greene. <br />· In memory of Bill Waidler. <br />
