The Committee recommends that the City Council schedule consideration of <br />the proposed Downtown Lighting and Pedestrian Improvements. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />b. The Committee recommends that the City Council schedule consideration of <br />establishing a right of way plan line for Eden Road. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />3. Human Relations Committee Meeting of March 16, 2006. Accepted as <br />submitted. <br /> <br />Recommendation for City Council Consideration: <br /> <br />a. Mayor Young indicated that she plans <br />to travel to Ponta Delgada and will pay her own travel expenses. <br /> <br />b. The Committee recommends a request be forwarded to the Human Services <br />Commission for a report on homelessness in San Leandro, what services are <br />offered and what the needs are in the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant recalled that last year funds were received to address <br />homelessness in San Leandro. Mr. Horn noted that Alameda County <br />received a large federal grant for homeless programs as a result of a <br />comprehensive homeless count performed about two years ago. He stated <br />the amount San Leandro will receive will depend upon whether the City has <br />programs which meet the County's funding criteria. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant commented on the discussion regarding a Chinese <br />Sister City. She noted that most cities in China are much larger than San <br />Leandro. Mr. Jermanis indicated that the meeting visitor introduced the <br />concept of a "Friendship City" which differs from a Sister City relationship <br />due to its economic and trade aspects. The City will work with Business <br />Development and the Chamber of Commerce to determine whether local <br />businesses are interested in participating in such a program. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br />
