<br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />November 20, 2006 <br /> <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />John Jermanis, City Manager <br /> <br /> <br />FROM: Uchenna Udemezue, Director <br />Engineering and Transportation D partment <br /> <br />BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engineer J <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESC TI N: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACTUAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH HARRIS <br />DESIGN RELATING TO THE BANCROFT MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD AND PLAY AREA, <br />PROJECT NO. 210-38-257 <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff recommends approval of a contractual services agreement with Harris Design in the <br />amount of $124,305 for design and preparation of construction documents for the subject project. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />In 2004, meetings were conducted between the San Leandro City Council and the San Leandro <br />Unified School District (SLUSD) Board of Trustees to discuss potential joint use projects to <br />improve the Bancroft Middle School (BMS) sports fields. A Memorandum of Understanding <br />(MOU) with the SLUSD authorized the development of a joint use facility at BMS and <br />application for grant from the State Department of Parks and Recreation. In February 2006, the <br />SLUSD was notified that it received a grant for $1,000,000 to improve the general use turf sports <br />field, repair and improve the basketball cpurt area, and install supporting infrastructure, <br />induding irrigation and drainage systems. <br /> <br />As agreed in the MOU and a subsequent agreement, the SLUSD will provide funding for the <br />design and construction of the improvements through proceeds from the grant and other SLUSD <br />funds, while the City will fund the project management and inspection services. <br /> <br />Analvsis <br /> <br />Harris Design was selected to prepare the construction documents because of its prior work and <br />experience with the City and SLUSD in preparing the conceptual design and grant application <br />work on this project <br /> <br />Current City Council Policv <br /> <br />Not Applicable <br />
