Some communities have created local sources offundingforaffordablehousing <br />development that both increase the. total. amou nt of fund ing . avaiIable-therebyincreasing the. total <br />amount of housing that can be developed-and create arnore fleXiblesourcethatcanfill in gaps left by <br />other funding types. <br /> <br />City of Seattle residents have voted to levy property taxes for housing four times in the past, in 1981, <br />1986, 1995, and most recently in 2002. The 2002 levy will result in $86 miUionJor affordable housing over <br />7 years, and is anticipated to assist more than 2,000 householdsduringthat.time.Planneduses.oUhe <br />levy funds include: <br /> <br />· $63 million for rental housing production <br />· $7.8 million for an operating and maintenance program to ensurethata portion oftherental <br />production program housing is affordable to extremely low-income households (households <br />with incomes at or below 30 percent of median income) <br />· $7.8 million for homebuyer assistance for approximately 326 households with incomes <br />up to 80 percent of median income) <br />· $2.8 million for rental housing payment assistance for homelessness prevention <br />· $4.3 million for administrative costs <br /> <br />The housing levy is administered by the City of Seattle'sOffiteof Housing. <br />For more information on the Seattle Housing Levy, visitWWvi.seattle.goVlhciusinglLevy.htm. <br /> <br />
