August 3, 2006

Subject: Objection to height variance of project to be built at 2888 Darius Way

Of primary concern is the stability of the northern slope which adjoins properties on
Vistagrand Drive. The project Architect claims that soil tests were made and the ground
was considered safe for sustaining the homes to be built. Where were the soil tests made?
At the building sites? What about the stability of the northern slope? Nowhere in the
plans are there any assurances that erosion/vibrations would not subject the slope to give
way. And the slope here is extremely steep. This could prove to be devastating to the six
or seven properties on Vistagrand Drive overlooking the project. Is the city Engineering
staff satisfied with the appropriate testing of the slope? The most recent construction
project in Pittsburg, California is sufficient cause to question developments and
construction where nearby hills and slopes are involved.

Bulldozers will have to be used to level the ground for foundations and tenacing work.
Will the northern slope be seCW'e? Our home on Vistagrand Drive is adjacent to the
neighbor with a 15)000 gallon swimming pool located only six feet from the project's
pe:rty line. This is why we are deeply concerned.

,~~
Walter and Dorothy Bielaski
1785 Vistagrand Drive
San Leandro, CA 94577
