Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies

Councilmember Nardine provided a report from the Alameda County Mosquito
Abatement District. She pointed out that while the reported figures tripled since April,
primarily due to the long rainy season, no cases of West Nile Virus have been reported
in Alameda County so far this year. Councilmember Nardine noted that aerial
helicopter spraying, similar to that proposed to treat the invasive spartina, was used on
cattail and tule marshes for mosquitoes which are known vectors of the West Nile
Virus.

Vice Mayor Grant reported on the Alameda County Housing Authority's family self-
sufficiency program, which works with young adults. A young man who participated in
the program recently graduated with his Masters Degree and obtained a job at a salary
level that allowed him to become self-s~fficient.
