<br />MINUTES Page 8 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, San Leandro Parking Authority, San <br />Leandro Public Financing Authority, and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-June 19, 2006 <br /> <br />Mike Katz-Lacabe, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting <br />that 2009 is the 100th Anniversary of the first San Leandro Cherry Festival and urging <br />the Council to restore the Cherry Festival and Sunday library hours. <br /> <br />There being no further comments from the public, and without objection, the Public <br />Hearing was closed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak expressed gratitude to the citizens of San Leandro for <br />passing Measure I and commented that she would like to see the Cherry Festival, <br />Sunday library hours and police positions restored. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos suggested using insurance reserves to fund the Cherry <br />Festival, Sunday library hours, Community Assistance program and police positions. <br />He requested a breakdown on the approximately $3.9 million Self-Insurance Services <br />Fund. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine inquired about the cost to restore the Cherry Festival. Mr. <br />Jermanis indicated that in the past, the Cherry Festival cost the City approximately <br />$80,000 each year. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant suggested that, in addressing the unmet needs, the Finance <br />Committee hold an evening community workshop on the City's budget priorities. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens expressed appreciation to the community and the Chamber <br />of Commerce for their support of Measure 1. He opposed the one-time use of $1.3 <br />million in reserves for on-going expenses, such as for GASB 45. Councilmember <br />Stephens commented that he would like to see the Cherry Festival restored in time for <br />its 100th year anniversary in 2009. <br /> <br />.
