<br />MINUTES Page 15 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Redevelopment Agency, and San Leandro Hillside Geologic Hazard <br />Abatement District Joint Meeting-July 17, 2006 <br /> <br />support of the Faire. Councilmember Starosciak reported that the Collaborative has <br />been pursuing an Internet safety program at the three middle schools in San Leandro. <br />She noted that the staff person for the Collaborative resigned this month, and Carolyn <br />Knudson is moving the projects forward. <br /> <br />B. Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported on her recent trip to San Leandro's Sister City of Pont a Delgada <br />in the Azores. She noted some of the major changes in the city since her last visit. <br />Ponta Delgada's current mayor, Berta Cabral, is the first woman mayor in the city's <br />SOO-year history. Mayor Young brought back several items from Ponta Delgada to <br />display in the Sister Cities Gallery and will create a photo display of her trip. She <br />expressed appreciation to the Council for allowing her the opportunity to travel to Ponta <br />Delgada to represent the City. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported that Councilmember Stephens attended the 18th Anniversary <br />Gala dinner and fundraiser for Building Futures with Women and Children on her <br />behalf. At the event, Councilmember Stephens accepted a Certificate of Special <br />Congressional Recognition signed by Congressman Pete Stark and an award for its <br />partnership with Building Futures, both presented to the City of San Leandro. <br /> <br />C. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Disaster Council Meeting of June 26, 2006. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Badger requested that the Council consider proclaiming a Pat Hurst Day for <br />her second place finish in the U.S. Open. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented that she would like the Council to review the purchasing <br />process and suggested the Council review the City's purchasing policy and local purchasing <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he would like the Council to consider an <br />amendment to the Business License Ordinance, Section 2-2-300 of the Municipal Code, to <br />exempt the fees for home rentals where the property owners are renting to their children. <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he would like to see an amendment strengthening <br />the Community Standards Ordinance come to the City Council for consideration. There was <br />consensus of the Council to refer the Business License Tax matter to the Finance Committee <br />and to refer to staff determination of the status of the amendments to the Community <br />Standards Ordinance. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that he attended Brownie Carrion's service today and <br />requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in his memory.
