Jemlanis <br />y Manager <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUN-OFF <br />ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2006, FOR THE ELECTION OF <br />MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMEMBER, DISTRICT 3 <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />A resolution declaring the results of the November 7, 2006 Special Municipal Runoff Election <br />for the City of San Leandro is presented to the City Council for consideration and approval. <br /> <br />Attached to the resolution is the Statement of Election Results prepared by the Alameda County <br />Registrar of Voters (ROV). The Statement lists the final tally of votes received by each <br />candidate as detemlined by the Official Canvass perfonned by the ROV of the returns of all <br />votes cast in the City of San Leandro. The City Council is requested to adopt the attached <br />resolution declaring the results of the Election. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Charter of the City of San Leandro requires a successful candidate for elective office to <br />receive at least 50% plus one of the votes cast for that office. In the event that no candidate <br />receives 50% plus one of the votes cast for that office, the Charter requires the City Council to <br />provide for a run-off vote to detennine the person elected. In the June 6, 2006 General <br />Municipal Election, no candidate for Mayor and no candidate for City Council District 3 <br />received the required 50% plus one votes cast for those offices to win the election. <br /> <br />On July 17, 2006, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2006-093, calling a Special <br />Municipal Run-Off Election, to be held on November 7, 2006, among the two persons receiving <br />the highest number of votes for the office of Mayor and among the two persons receiving the <br />highest number of votes for the office of City Councilmember, District 3, in the June 6, 2006 <br />General Municipal Election. It was also requested that the Board of Supervisors pennit the <br />consolidation of the City's Special Municipal RunofI Election with the Statewide General <br />Election, and that the ROY provide necessary services rclated to the conduct of the election. <br />
