<br />MINun:s <br />City ot~ San Leandro City Council and San r ,eandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-March 1 ~, 2004 <br /> <br />Page 18 <br /> <br />Councilmcmber Nardine commented that she received a Board of Zoning Adjustments <br />hearing notice utilizing the new notification [onnat. She asked the City Manager to pass 011 <br />her complilnents to staff for accomplishing what the Council had requested. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine agreed with a suggestion previously made by Vice Mayor Glaze that <br />the Council Internal Committee and Intergovernmental Agency appointment process should <br />be reviewed by the Rules and Communications Committee, and she hoped the Council would <br />concur. <br /> <br />Councilll1ember Nardine commented that Private "Boomer" Mayfield, whom she invited to a <br />previous City Council meeting, has rctumed from Iraq and sends his greetings and thanks to <br />all for their thoughts and well-wishes. <br /> <br />COLlllcilmember Nardine mlliounced that her grandson was born on Saturday. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze commented that the Council's trip to the National League of Cities (NLC) <br />Conference in Washington, D.C. was sLlceessful. Mayor Young was there representing the <br />Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) on local transportation issues. The Council <br />had an opportunity to lobby l'or Davis Street widening and dredging of the marina. Vice <br />Mayor Glaze rep0l1ed that Washington, D.C. has a m(~or problem with lead in the drinking <br />water and is pointing to the change from chlorine to chloramine as a possible cause. He asked <br />if City stair could check a couple of older schools and residences in the City to determine if <br />lead in the water supply is hecoming an issue here. <br /> <br />Couneilmemher Santos commented that the Council reported on local airport and noise issues <br />to Congressman Pete Stark. He attended the NOISE session at the NLC Conference and <br />offered to pass on intol11wtion from the session to the Council. <br /> <br />Couneilmember Santos recal1ed that the East Bay Paratransit report was discussed at the last <br />Council Meeting. He produced a copy of the report and gave it to the Mayor to provide <br />copies to the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that she received a letter from the National Arbor Day Foundation, <br />congratulating the City on being named a 2003 Tree City USA and indicating that the Tree <br />City USA award would be an appropriate pali of the City's Arbor Day ceremony. <br /> <br />Mayor Young stated that she received a letter I~'om Kel1y Lencioni of the San Leandro High <br />School AV.I.D. Program requesting assist<mce in funding the program. Mayor Young <br />indicated that she plans to make a contribution through the Mayor's Community Fund and <br />asked the Council to pass on to her any suggestions they may have for assisting this program. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced that the City Council has received an invitation from Ole Oakland <br />A's to attend a reception for Opening Day of baseball season. She noted that since the <br />Council meets on Monday nights, members have not had the opportunity to attend the <br />Opening Day festivities, Mayor Young suggested that the City Council cancel its regular <br />lnec!ing on April 5 and hold a special meeting on April 12 in order to allow the Council to <br />
