Schedule ror City Council consideration a resolution pen11lttll1g elected <br />officials who are 110n-members of the City's PERS retirement system to be <br />enrolled in the City's deCen"ed compensation program with the City <br />contrihuting $1.00 to such plan in order that the Councilmembcr can be <br />enrolled in the City's health plan. <br /> <br />There was consensus to bring the item back on the April 12, 2004 <br />agenda for City Council consideration. <br /> <br />c. Adopt a policy or the City Council of not endorsing ballot measures, but <br />allowing individual Councilmembers to do so iCthey choose. <br /> <br />Councilmemher Santos suggested that the Council consider an exception to <br />the policy for measures placed on the ballot by the City Council. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze clarified the Committee's concern that once a measure is <br />placed on the ballot, it is in the voters' hands, and the Council as a whole <br />should not take a position on it. <br /> <br />Mayor Young suggested that when the item comes back on a future agenda, <br />the phrase, "hut allowing individual Councilrncmbers to do so if they <br />choose" should be O1nitted, since individual Councilmembers already have <br />the right to take positions on measures without a policy statement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine suggested that the item be brought back as it was <br />dralted, and the Council can modify the language at the time the action is <br />taken. <br /> <br />Thel-e was consensus to bring the item back on the April 12, 2004 <br />agenda for City Council consideration. <br /> <br />12. CITY C01JNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Coul1cilmember Badger commented on an issue regarding the Transportation Equity Act for <br />the 21 st Century (TEA-2!) which the Council was informed about at a briefing held by <br />Senator Barbara Boxer during the recent conference in Washington, D.C. <br /> <br />C:ouncilmember Badger reported that he represented the Mayor at the news conference for the <br />C;eorge Mark Children's House. He remarked that it is an upbeat and happy place for <br />children to spend their final days, and it is the only facility o[its kind in the U.S. <br />
