Resolution Commending Vera Bates for Her Years or Servicc on thc Senior <br />Commission. (1081/2143) <br /> <br />Mayor Young noted that Vera had suffered a stroke, relocated to Santa Bm-bara to live <br />with her daughter and was unable to attend tonight's rnecting. Senior Commissioner <br />Pat Free stated that the members onhe Senior Commission thought very highly of Vera, <br />and she will be greatly missed. Counci1mernber Grant stated that she was honored to be <br />able to appoint Vera as the District 2 representative to the Senior Commission and <br />spoke of Vera's dedication and conllibutions to the City in her role as Senior <br />Commissioner. <br /> <br />13- Resol ution Appoi nting Betania Leal as an Honorary Member of the Youth Advisory <br />Commission. (1947) <br /> <br />13etania Leal was not present at the meeting. Leah Combs, Chair of the Youth Advisory <br />COlllmission (Y AC), welcomed Betania as a member orthe Y AC. <br /> <br />F. Presentation oflnformation by the American Cancer Society on the Relay For Lire. <br /> <br />Lisa Briones and representatives from the American Cancer Society played a game or <br />"Who Wants to be a Cancer Awareness Millionaire?" with the City Council, while <br />providing information on cancer awareness and prevention and the Relay For Life event <br />to be held on May 20, 2004. <br /> <br />G. Announcernent of Winner and Runners-up in the City of San Leandro's Tramc Safety <br />Education Program Slogan Contest. <br /> <br />Engineering and Transportation Director Uche Udemezue gave a short presentation <br />describing the Traffic Salety Education Program. Mayor Young announced the winner <br />and runners-up in the Traffic Safety Slogan Contest and awarded prizes donated by <br />Robinson Wheelworks. The winning slogan, "Go Safe and Slow in San Leandro," was <br />submitted by Debbie Dodd. <br /> <br />3. PUBLIC HRARINGS <br /> <br />Public Heming COlllments are limited to 5 minutes per person, subject to adjus1lnent by the <br />Mayor. When you address the City Council, yOLl should till out a speaker card and submit it <br />to the City Clerk so the order of speakers may be detemlined and an official record of names <br />and addresses obtained. <br /> <br />A.
