She stated that if both Charter amendments are presented to the <br />voters, an explanation of the cost of the options should be provided to the <br />community. <br /> <br />Ms. Williams noted an issue raised by Vice Mayor Badger at the Rules <br />Committee regarding the need to clarify the terms of office for those affected <br />by the present Charter language. She pointed out the "phase-in" language <br />that would allow for tenns of more or less than four years until such time as <br />the terms are back on a four-year track. <br /> <br />Mayor Young noted that the last Charter amendment was placed on the <br />ballot in haste and that great care needs to be taken to ensure the language <br />for this Charter amendment accurately reflects the Council's intent. <br /> <br />It "vas the consensus of the City Council to consider a resolution placing <br />on the ballot a Charter amendment to fix the term issue. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented regarding requests to adjourn the meeting in memory of former <br />President Ronald Reagan and indicated that she will do so. Mayor Young noted that the <br />federal govenlll1ent has declared Friday, June 11 a National Day of Mourning and the City <br />\vill follow Alameda County's lead as to whether it declares a Day of Mourning and closes <br />City offices. <br /> <br />Mayor Young cOlnmented that she will also adjouDl the meeting In memory of May <br />Kleebauer, mother of Susan KleebaueI. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger thanked staff for a great Cherry Festival. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger requested the nleeting be adjourned in memory of Leonard W. Wells, JI., <br />who lost his life \vhile pushing his friend out of the path of a car. <br /> <br />Councilnlember Glaze commented that the Cherry Festival was wonderful, and he expressed <br />his thanks to staff. <br /> <br />Councilnlelllber Stephens expressed appreciation to City staff for all the work they do behind <br />the scenes and for the long hours they work. <br /> <br />CouncilInelllber Stephens announced that District 5 is sponsoring a Home Tour on Sunday <br />and invited everyone to attend. <br /> <br />Councilmenlber Santos provided to City Manager Jermanis information on alternatives to <br />traditional public safety delivery systeITIS, which he researched as a Councilmember in the <br />early 1990s.
