<br />l\lINUTES Page 10 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-November 1,2004 <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos conunented that he was very in1pressed with the report on the <br />property at Estabrook and East 14th Street prepared by Maxina Ventura and her children. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commended the Police Department for apprehending those responsible <br />for a scam near A TM machines in which youth masqueraded as high school football players <br />conducting a fundraiser. He noted that a citizen helped to identify the suspects. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commented that on behalf of Mayor and the City Council, he presented <br />the commendation to the Brotherhood of St. Anthony Mutual Benefit of the State of <br />California on its 102nd Anniversary and on the occasion of its 62nd Annual Convention. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Joe M. <br />Costa, the Grand President of the Brotherhood of St. Anthony, as well as Mrs. Willie B. <br />White, grandmother of Councilmember Surlene Grant. <br /> <br />Mayor Young conunented that she received a phone call from Mayor Brown of Oakland in <br />which he indicated that he is not necessarily supportive of the casino issue. Mayor Young and <br />Councilmember Grant attended the Koi Nation's presentation to the City of Oakland held at <br />the Airport Hilton. Mayor Young asked about the 35-mile rule at the meeting and was told by <br />the tribal leader that the Koi Nation is not affected by the 35-mile rule since it is a landless <br />ancestral tribe. She requested that the City Attorney do research into the issue. Mayor Young <br />indicated that she will be meeting soon with the Mayor of Alameda, who has also written a <br />letter to Mayor Brown. She stated she will keep the Council apprised on this issue. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced that tonight's meeting will be adjourned in memory of A. Sylvia <br />Collier, wife of former Plalming Con1missioner Joe Collier; Joe M. Costa of the Brotherhood <br />of St. Anthony; and Mrs. Willie B. White, grandmother of Councilmember Grant, who was <br />nearly 100 years of age. <br /> <br />13. ADJOURN <br /> <br />The n1eeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.n1. <br />In memory of A.
