CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Santos commented on the National League of Cities Conference in Washington, D.C., noting the NLC promoted a program called A City Challenge for Early Childhood Success. Councilmember Santos suggested the Council refer discussion of the program to the Human Services Commission to determine whether it could be implemented locally. Councilmember Santos requested tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Anthony 1. Santos, who worked for the San Leandro School District for over 30 years. Mayor Young reported the AC Transit San Leandro Corridor MIS Study will be dealing with a variety of issues including an environmental review. She has re-appointed Councilmember Badger to work with her on the committee. Mayor Young commented she had read a news article regarding the County's efforts to pass some new legislation on uniformity of newspaper racks. She asked if Council had any objections to looking into similar actions at the City level. Councilmembers raised no objections. Mayor Young recalled the Council had discussed the issue of wood smoke emissions from wood-burning fireplaces about a year ago. She suggested if Councilmembers are interested, a discussion on a model wood-smoke ordinance for new fireplace installations could be placed on a future agenda. Councilmembers expressed interest in this topic. Councilmember Badger requested the meeting be adjourned in memory of retired Police Sergeant Bob DeMaria.
