CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS COllncilmember Badger report cd he was honorcd to attend the funeral services of Bob Grazzini on behalf of the Mayor. Councilmember Badger spoke regarding the positive influence Mr. Grazzini had on many memhers of the community. Vice Mayor Glaze commented favorably on the Spanish language brochure, asking it he sent to fortner Councilmembers Lothrop and Loeffler. Mayor Young noted Spanish Outreach Coordinator Nestor Cuellas, who translatcd for her during the Cinco de Mayo ICstivities carlier this evening, assisted in the development orthc brochure. Councilmemher Stephcns echoed the comments of Counci1rnemher Badger regarding Bob Grazzini and his fine contributions to the conununity, noting the number of people attending his rosary at St. Leander's was a testimony to a life well lived. Councilmember Santos commented he was also honored to attend Mr. Grazzini's serviccs. He pointed out an article in the April 29, 2003 issue of the Daily Review regarding Cummins West, a San Leandro-based company which has developed a new emission control system for diescl engines. Mayor Young noted she has scheduled a meeting with Cummins West and that the company has hired the immediate past executive director of the Bay Area Air Quality Managcment District to work with them. She will obtain information on the company and the emission control system to provide to the Council. Mayor Young stated neither Councilmember Santos nor his alternate, Councilmember Stephens, will be able to attend the Lcague of Califomia Cities General Assembly in Sacramento on May 14 and 15. Mayor Young noted some very important decisions affecting local governments will be made and it is important that San Leandro have a voting delegate at the meeting. Councilmember Grant volunteered to be the alternate voting delegate. Mayor Young stated she received a letter requesting the City of San Leandro observe a National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day to promote greater awareness of the meaning of Memorial Day. By the consensus of the Council, the Mayor was authorized to participate in the prob'Tam. Mayor Young announced Jim ProIa was selected as the 2003 COPE Unionist o!'the Year for AFSCME. A "favorite son" of San Leandro, Jim has worked on many City advisory committees and is a valued member of the community. At the request of Council member Santos, Mayor Young will prepare a commendation Jor Jim ProIa.
