CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />COllncilmember Badger report cd he was honorcd to attend the funeral services of Bob <br />Grazzini on behalf of the Mayor. Councilmember Badger spoke regarding the positive <br />influence Mr. Grazzini had on many memhers of the community. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze commented favorably on the Spanish language brochure, asking it he sent <br />to fortner Councilmembers Lothrop and Loeffler. Mayor Young noted Spanish Outreach <br />Coordinator Nestor Cuellas, who translatcd for her during the Cinco de Mayo ICstivities <br />carlier this evening, assisted in the development orthc brochure. <br /> <br />Councilmemher Stephcns echoed the comments of Counci1rnemher Badger regarding Bob <br />Grazzini and his fine contributions to the conununity, noting the number of people attending <br />his rosary at St. Leander's was a testimony to a life well lived. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented he was also honored to attend Mr. Grazzini's serviccs. <br />He pointed out an article in the April 29, 2003 issue of the Daily Review regarding Cummins <br />West, a San Leandro-based company which has developed a new emission control system for <br />diescl engines. Mayor Young noted she has scheduled a meeting with Cummins West and <br />that the company has hired the immediate past executive director of the Bay Area Air Quality <br />Managcment District to work with them. She will obtain information on the company and the <br />emission control system to provide to the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Young stated neither Councilmember Santos nor his alternate, Councilmember <br />Stephens, will be able to attend the Lcague of Califomia Cities General Assembly in <br />Sacramento on May 14 and 15. Mayor Young noted some very important decisions affecting <br />local governments will be made and it is important that San Leandro have a voting delegate at <br />the meeting. Councilmember Grant volunteered to be the alternate voting delegate. <br /> <br />Mayor Young stated she received a letter requesting the City of San Leandro observe a <br />National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day to promote greater <br />awareness of the meaning of Memorial Day. By the consensus of the Council, the Mayor was <br />authorized to participate in the prob'Tam. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced Jim ProIa was selected as the 2003 COPE Unionist o!'the Year for <br />AFSCME. A "favorite son" of San Leandro, Jim has worked on many City advisory <br />committees and is a valued member of the community. At the request of Council member <br />Santos, Mayor Young will prepare a commendation Jor Jim ProIa. <br />
