Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. City and San Lorenzo Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of June <br />3, 2003. Accepted as Submitted. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze reminded the Council of the Support Essential Local Services rally on <br />Wednesday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakland City Plaza. Councilmember Santos, Police <br />Chief Kitchen and Fire Chief McCammon plan to attend. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos announced Louise Tamayo will receive the Jefferson Achieveluent <br />Award tonight in Washington, D.C., for her work with Operation: MOM. Councilmember <br />Santos requested the Council consider some form of local recognition. Councilmenlbers <br />agreed to have the Mayor provide some appropriate recognition for Ms. Tamayo for her work <br />with Operation: MOM. <br /> <br />Mayor Young arranged with the Council to have a new photo taken prior to the regular City <br />Council meeting on July 21. Mayor Young mentioned a letter from Shiyama Rickford of <br />SBC requesting a resolution of support. The Mayor will provide a copy of the request to the <br />Council and will place the item on a future agenda for discussion. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced Kay Wellington will be leaving San Leandro. Councilmember <br />Grant is scheduled to attend an event on Saturday, June 28, 2003 on the Mayor's behalf to <br />celebrate Kay Wellington's service and ministry in San Leandro. Mayor Young will have a <br />commendation prepared for Councilmember Grant to present on behalf of the City Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced the CEO of MDL will also be leaving San Leandro. <br />Councilmember Santos agreed to attend the event on Sunday, June 29, 2003 on the Mayor's <br />behalf and present a commendation on behalf of the City Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced the following presentations were made in the past month: <br />· Vice Mayor Glaze presented a commendation to Mary Baker upon her retirement from <br />the San Lorenzo Unified School District after 32 years of service as a teacher at Dayton <br />and Washington Manor Schools. <br />· A proclamation declaring June 14,2003 as "Flag Day". <br />· Councilmember Stephens presented a proclamation to the San Leandro Kiwanis Club <br />declaring June 9-13, 2003 as "Kiwanis Week" and in celebration of Kiwanis <br />International's 88th Anniversary. <br />· The Mayor and Council made a contribution to Leadership San Leandro in appreciation <br />for its participation in this year's Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced she was re-elected as Chair of the Women Mayors Caucus for the <br />second consecutive year. Mayor Young was invited to do a demonstration video on the U.S. <br />Conference of Mayors website, www.usmayors.org, and she did a short presentation on the <br />new museum in San Leandro. Mayor Young was also appointed to the Honleland Security <br />Task Force. The Council had a short discussion regarding funding for homeland security. <br />
