<br />MINUTES Page 13 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-October 6,2003 <br /> <br />13. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Badger commented on PG&E's lack of communication to residents <br />regarding the installation of power poles in his district. He reported that a PG&E <br />subcontractor came out at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning to break up concrete with <br />jackhammers on his street. There was no prior notification that work was to be performed <br />and the work remains unfinished. <br /> <br />On a related note, Councilmember Grant commented that she made a request to the PG&E <br />area representative asking that neighbors be notified when work was to be performed at 136th , <br />Bancroft and School Streets. She mentioned that she represented the City Family at the <br />services of Sheila Hill-Fajors. Councilmember Grant commented that she and Hanson Hom <br />Inade a presentation on September 19 to the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Communities. <br />She noted Hanson did a wonderful job of describing the San Leandro community. <br />Councilmember Grant expressed her appreciation to Community Development staff member <br />Lynn Brown for her assistance to a District 2 resident. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine commented on a traffic issue at Montague and Teagarden. She <br />noted that semi-trucks back into the middle of the street, blocking traffic and drivers' <br />visibility. <br /> <br />Vice Glaze asked about the informational community meetings proposed for District 6 <br />referred to by the City Manager in his report. He suggested a good model for these meetings <br />is the one held by Engineering and Transportation on the subject of Lewelling Boulevard. <br />Vice Mayor Glaze noted the meeting was run exceptionally well and was very informative. <br />Vice Mayor Glaze asked that Council receive a status update on the dedication of the South <br />Offices as the Helen Lawrence Building. Mr. J ermanis stated staff is working on design <br />concepts, and the ad hoc committee will be convened to discuss implementation. <br /> <br />On behalf of District 5, Councilmember Stephens thanked City staff for all the good work in <br />organizing, setting up and executing the successful Neighborhood Cleanup on Saturday. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that the Sausage and Suds event was well-attended. She noted it <br />was a very busy weekend as the Chinese Christian School held an open house for its new <br />building and the San Leandro Yacht Club had its 40th anniversary. <br /> <br />Councilmember Badger and Mayor Young thanked staff for their efficient cleanup of the <br />Pelton Center, Parrott Street and W ashington Avenue after the Sausage and Suds event. <br />Councilmember Badger thanked staff for the quick action on the Rodney Drive PG&E issue, <br />most notably Community Relations Representative Kathy Ornelas and the Engineering and <br />Transportation Department staff. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced tonight's meeting would be adjourned in the memory of Germaine <br />Loeffler, mother of former Councilmember Garry Loeffler. <br />
