Council Member Santos requested Betty Bailey's name be placed on the February 4, 2002, City Council Agenda as his District 6 nomination to the Senior Commission. Council Member Santos raised the issue of absentee landlords under the Community Preservation Ordinance efforts and asked staff to include that in their efforts to enhance the current ordinance. Council Member Santos reported he is looking at forming a Business Alliance for West San Leandro. I-Ie indicated he had an informal meeting with some Chamber and business leaders and is looking at the feasibility of a joint effort with District (j because of District 6 and 3 abutting each other. He concluded by requesting starr assistance in this effort. Council Members discussed the use of staff time for this type of effort. It was noted that Economic Development Starr comes to various Business Association Meetings as invited and may be helpful in giving guidance for fornling a Business Association, but actually having "stafT assistance" on a regular basis has not been something that has been available. In conclusion, it was suggested Council Members from District 3 and 6 put together a proposal for what they would envision the role of staff to be with the fonnation of this Business Association. The City Council Economic Development and Redevelopment Committee could then review the issue and make a recommendation to the full City Council. 10. ADJOURN The City Council adjourned its meeting at 8:05 p.m. to Monday, January 28, 2002, for a Work Session, at 7:00 p.m., in the South Offices Conference Room.
