<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />March 4, 2002 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze remarked that the City Council has been reviewing this issue for <br />a number of years. He added that, at this point in time, it is time to say "enough is <br />enough" and move forward. <br /> <br />Mayor Young suggested that the motion include direction for staff to continue to <br />work with the Chamber Industrial Roundtable Wastewater Committee to research <br />opportunities to cut costs for the twenty-one large, major industrial users. <br /> <br />The following Motion was then introduced: <br /> <br />Minute Order No. 2002-20, Matter of Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment <br />Alternatives. (1455) <br /> <br />The City Council: <br /> <br />(1) Accepted staffs recommendation to decline the East Bay Municipal <br />Utility District's (EBMUD) proposal and to confirm the City's intention <br />to continue operating the San Leandro Water Pollution Control <br />Plant(WI>CP) in the foreseeable future; and <br /> <br />(2) Directed staff to continue working with the San Leandro <br />Chamber!lndustrial Roundtable to explore options to cut costs and <br />bring reHefto the twenty-one (21) large industrial, major users. <br /> <br />M/S/C Santos and Glaze. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br /> <br />B. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Loeffler commented that the majority of full-time staff (police and <br />fire personnel included) do not live in San Leandro. He suggested the City Council <br />continue to explore what it would take to have San Leandro employees live in San <br />Leandro. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Nardine requested the Council Meeting be adjourned in memory <br />of the police dog "Jambo" that died recently. <br /> <br />C. Council Member Grant requested that Mr. Ashcraft's item regarding the use of the <br />word "minority" be refened to the Human Relations Committee for the next <br />agenda. <br /> <br />The full Council was supportive of that request. <br />
