Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting March 4, 2002 Page 8 Vice Mayor Glaze remarked that the City Council has been reviewing this issue for a number of years. He added that, at this point in time, it is time to say "enough is enough" and move forward. Mayor Young suggested that the motion include direction for staff to continue to work with the Chamber Industrial Roundtable Wastewater Committee to research opportunities to cut costs for the twenty-one large, major industrial users. The following Motion was then introduced: Minute Order No. 2002-20, Matter of Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Alternatives. (1455) The City Council: (1) Accepted staffs recommendation to decline the East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) proposal and to confirm the City's intention to continue operating the San Leandro Water Pollution Control Plant(WI>CP) in the foreseeable future; and (2) Directed staff to continue working with the San Leandro Chamber!lndustrial Roundtable to explore options to cut costs and bring reHefto the twenty-one (21) large industrial, major users. M/S/C Santos and Glaze. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 B. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. None 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS A. Council Member Loeffler commented that the majority of full-time staff (police and fire personnel included) do not live in San Leandro. He suggested the City Council continue to explore what it would take to have San Leandro employees live in San Leandro. B. Council Member Nardine requested the Council Meeting be adjourned in memory of the police dog "Jambo" that died recently. C. Council Member Grant requested that Mr. Ashcraft's item regarding the use of the word "minority" be refened to the Human Relations Committee for the next agenda. The full Council was supportive of that request.
