Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-Novcm~.er 18,2002 <br /> <br />Gary Segraves, 420 Mitchell Avenue, addressed the City Council, characterizing the <br />issue as a matter of quality of life for the neighborhood residents, and opined Ms. Wright <br />has been given many opportunities to correct the problems. Mr. Segraves urged the <br />Council to uphold the BZA's decision and the conditions imposed. <br /> <br />Joe Carlino, 495 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council regarding the changes to the <br />neighborhood over the twelve years he has lived in there due to the presence of Freddie's. <br />Mr. Carlino opined Ms. Wright and her supporters are not accepting responsibility for the <br />detrimental effects of the business on the neighborhood, and urged the Council to enforce <br />the Deemed Approved ordinance. <br /> <br />Arthur Whitmore, San Leandro Church of Christ, addressed the City Council, <br />expressmg agreement with the comments of the residents and support of the BZA's <br />decision. <br /> <br />Alicia Anderson, 474 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council, stating she is a Iifteen- <br />year resident orthe neighborhood, and noting a significant difference in the quality oflife <br />since Freddie's opened. Ms. Anderson encouraged the Council to uphold the BZA's <br />decision. <br /> <br />Judy Square, 422 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council regarding the appellant's <br />comments that she has not had the opportunity to address the problems. Ms. Square noted <br />the appellant has had contacts with Mr. Schock, Council Member Loemer, the two <br />ministers of the church, several police officers, and neighborhood residents, so should <br />have been well aware 01' the problems. Ms. Square further noted problems are still <br />occuning and supported a required closing time of 10 p.m. <br /> <br />Ben Peters, 467 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council on behalfofhis father, Lorin <br />Peters, who owns the property at 467 Lewis Avenue. Mr. Peters stated his father strongly <br />supports the BZA's decision. <br /> <br />Toni Bermeo, 445 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of the BZA's <br />decision and requested the Council deny the appeal. <br /> <br />Kathleen Warner, 482 Lewis Avenue, addressed the City Council, opining Freddie's <br />Showcase is not operated in an orderly and lawful manner and stated her husband's life <br />was threatened by a patron of Freddie's. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovieh, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the City Council regarding his conce1l1 <br />about the City's process for conducting public hearings and opined, to his knowledge, the <br />BZA is the only body in the City of San Leandro that conducts meetings the way they <br />should be run. Mr. Filipovich quoted from the minutes 01' the BZA meetings of <br />September 5 and September 19,2002. <br /> <br />Leticia Sexton, 1520-138111 Avenue, addressed the City Council, stating she is Freddie <br />Wright's daughter, and refuted some 01' the claims made by previous speakers.
