<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council, <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency, and the <br />San Leandro Geologic Hazard Abatement District <br />Joint Meeting - February 20, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 10 <br /> <br />O. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported that the City Manager was given a favorable <br />performance evaluation, which triggered a contract provision for a COLA <br />increase, pursuant to his contract signed December 20, 1999. <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. The Mayor commented on the renaming of the Gallery Room to the "Sister Cities <br />Gallery" and added that Mayor Arruda will be visiting San Leandro and UPEC in <br />August. <br /> <br />The Mayor also remarked on having recognized Yvonne de la Tour on the <br />occasion of her 101 st birthday. <br /> <br />In conclusion, the Mayor announced that the 16-screen theatre at Bayfair Mall <br />would be opening April 20, 2001. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Santos remarked that he has received complaints from Davis <br />Street area residents regarding irregular signing at Costco which misdirects people <br />who are currently turning in at Warden. He stated the need to direct the people to <br />the proper driveway. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos also remarked on having received contact from a local <br />florist on Doolittle Drive who lost business for a full day on February 14th <br />(Valentine's Day) due to street reconstruction. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos commented on a letter received from a business on <br />Carden Street (off Doolittle Drive) indicating issues with trucks parking on the <br />street and not utilizing their yard for parking. He remarked that this parking issue <br />has created traffic problems in the afternoon as traffic increases. <br /> <br />C. Council Member Loeffier asked for a report on the City's Grant writing success <br />and/or efforts prior to the 2001-2002 budget process. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffier also remarked about a recent court case in which <br />contract employees and their benefits were in question. He noted the need to <br />monitor this issue. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffier asked for a report on the $300,000 FEMA Grant and <br />how the funds will be applied; and concluded by stating that there has been recent <br />press on the lack of evidence of the effectiveness of the DARE Program and the <br />need for it to be revamped. <br />
