<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Special Meeting <br />July 23, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />E. Art Gasper, 1200 Brookvale Drive, addressed the City Council 10 support of <br />Paul Nahm being appointed to fill the vacancy in District I. <br /> <br />F. Mark Rezente, 1621 D~lI1iels Drive, addressed the City Council in support of <br />Paul Nahm being appointed to fill the vacancy in District 1. <br /> <br />G. John Faria, 2410 Lakeview Drive, addressed the City Council with concerns <br />regarding the lack of newspaper coverage of the appointment process. He <br />encouraged the City Council to carefully select someone to fill the vacancy and <br />indicated that there are four very strong candidates to consider. <br /> <br />H. Joseph Flynn, 877 Dolores Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of <br />Orval Badger being appointed to fill the vacancy in District I. <br /> <br />I. Shirley Kerr, 1801 Adams Avenue, addressed the City Council 10 suppol1 of <br />Dale Reed being appointed to fill the vacancy in District I. <br /> <br />1. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne DI"ive, addressed the City Council in support of <br />Paul Nahm because he has indicated he will not seek election in November 2002. <br /> <br />3. NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />A. Interviews of Candidates to Fill Vacant Seat, City Council, District 1. <br /> <br />The Mayor explained the process that will take place this evening and the City <br />Council, by a 4-2 straw vote, agreed to add one additional question to the <br />recommended list. The question added would inquire as to if the candidate were a <br />member of any formal political action Group that is registered with the Fair <br />Political Practices Commission; and, if so, which group. (The amended list of <br />questions is attached for reference to these Minutes.) <br /> <br />The City Council conducted interviews for the Council Member, District I, <br />vacancy in the following order: <br /> <br />Orval Badger <br />Mike Pretto <br />Dale Reed <br />Frank Lynn <br />Paul Nahm <br /> <br />Once the interviews were completed, all candidates returned to the meeting and <br />the City Council cast the first ballot to select a candidate. <br />
