Boat Launch Ramp Relocation - San Leandro Marina
Environmental Checklist
Evaluation of Environmental Factors
Biological Resources
IV.a)
The proposed project will involve the construction of a 6,000 sf. launch ramp, installation
of 2,500 sf. of boarding floats, six (6) concrete piling to secure the boarding floats;
Removal of the existing 3,650 sf. wood pier at the proposed launch ramp site, along with
approximately 26 treated timber piling; placement of approximately 450 cy. of fill at the
existing wood pier site, and removal and reinstallation of approximately 200 cy. of rock
slope protection at the pier site, plus 150 cubic yards of rock protection at the new launch
ramp. Best Management Practices to maintain water duality will be employed for the
removal and replacement of project components for material and debris contaiiunent, and
pile installation, as agreed upon by the regulatory agencies and the City of San Leandro.
Listed species possibly found in the South San Francisco Bay are the Western Snowy
Plover, California Least Tern, and Pacific Herring. It is not anticipated that the removal
and new construction associated with the project will affect these species. The Snowy
Plover and Least Tern are both shorebirds whose habitat are sandy beaches and mudflats,
not associated with the relocation of the boat launch ramp within the marina. The Pacific
Herring do not spawn over mud substrates found on the east side of San Francisco Bay.
Spawning and rearing nonnally occurs from December into March, which would also he
outside the window being considered for construction. None of these species have been
observed at the project site.
IV. d)
The proposed project will involve relocation of boat launching facilities of nearly
equivalent dimensions and volume to the existing launching facility to be removed under
a separate project. The existing launching facility will be closed to the public upon
completion of the new facility. There will be a net increase of approximately 700 total
cubic yards of solid fill and approximately 500 sf. of floating fill that is not inticipatcd to
interfere with the movement of any native resident fish or wildlife over that presently
existing.
IV.e)
Although included by reference in the Long -Term Managment Strategy (LTMS) for the
San Francisco Bay, and shown in the San Francisco Bay Plan, there are no listed wildlife
species of concern or priority uses indicated, respectively, in either document for the
project site.
