<br />MINUTES Page 7 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-February 5, 2007 <br /> <br />process, conferred with the City Attorney and concluded that applicant Luster Knight <br />was ineligible to be interviewed due to a lack of qualified signatures. Although Mr. <br />Knight submitted 27 signatures, only 15 were valid. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant added that, although it was not specified in the application process, it <br />was the Council's intention that an applicant would need to gather 20 valid signatures of <br />registered voters in order to be an eligible applicant. Vice Mayor Grant stated that San <br />Leandro is a stronger, better place as a result of Luster Knight's over 20 years of <br />dedicated community service. <br /> <br />Public Comments on Item 10.A.: <br /> <br />The following individuals addressed the Council in support of applicant Jim ProIa: <br />. Margaret Hanlon-Gradie, representing the Alameda County Central Labor <br />Council <br />. Barry Luboviski, representing the Building and Construction Trades Council <br />. Bud Beal, representing the Federation of Retired Union Members <br />. Craig Williams, San Leandro resident <br />. Richard Becker, San Leandro resident <br />. Kathy Sanchez, San Leandro resident <br />. Mike Katz, San Leandro resident <br />. Catherine Vierra Houston, representing United Steelworkers Local 1304 <br />. Jeff Houston, San Leandro resident <br /> <br />Candus Baca, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council ill support of <br />applicant Mark Tichy. <br /> <br />Mark Tichy, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting that he <br />believed he should be appointed to the District 6 City Council seat because he came in <br />second in the 2004 Council election and received over 3,000 votes. Mr. Tichy <br />commented that Councilmembers should be elected by district. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovich, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting on <br />local elections. <br /> <br />Dr. Paul Dancy, President of the African American Business Council of San <br />Leandro, addressed the City Council, commenting that his organization plans to <br />interview the finalists to determine which applicant best represents their members' <br />needs and interests and inform the Council of their choice. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos announced that a petition had been signed and submitted by 25 members <br />of the Asian community in support of applicants Rermy Almonte and Bo Panoringan. <br /> <br />End of Public Comments on Item 10.A. <br />
