<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council - May 1, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />One person appointed by each Council Member <br />One person appointed by the Mayor <br />Staff Support will be provided by the Community Services Department <br /> <br />Council Member Grant remarked that the first planning meeting will be held in <br />June, so she requested the City Council make their appointments to the committee <br />as soon as they are able. The appointments can be forwarded to Kathi Heimann in <br />the Community Services Department or to her (Council Member Grant) directly. <br /> <br />Council Member Grant indicated that a budget of $10,000 has been allocated for <br />Millennium activities. In conclusion, Council Member Grant went over two <br />proposed projects which included updating the Official San Leandro Book and a <br />program to encourage 2000 Minutes of Volunteer Service. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Lothrop suggested a representative from the Arts Council be <br />added to the list of members for the Committee. <br /> <br />C. Mayor Young also suggested the Elected Officials listing, currently in the book, <br />"A Garden Grows in Eden", be updated as it has not been updated since 1970. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Galvan requested that the Mayor consider doing a proclamation <br />for "Bike To Work Day" on May 16, 2000. <br /> <br />E. Council Member Lothrop commented on the Arts Council Reception held last <br />Friday and indicated there was a great turnout. <br /> <br />Council Member Lothrop continued by expressing some concern, based on <br />comments she had received, regarding residents at Heron Bay not being properly <br />informed of where their polling places were during the last election. The City <br />Clerk indicated that she will check into the matter. <br /> <br />F. Council Member Loeffler provided information to the City Council regarding <br />house designs from Portland, Oregon. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commented on Dr. Werner's resignation as Principal of <br />San Leandro High School and thanked him for the two years of service that he had <br />given to the community, indicating it is a difficult task to be a Principal of a High <br />School. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler then reported on his attendance at the Children's <br />Memorial Program last Friday which was a tribute to those children who have died <br />over the last year from violence. <br /> <br />G. The Mayor indicated she will be sending a letter to Dr. Werner on behalf of the <br />City Council thanking him for his service to the community. <br />
