CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Mayor Young reported on her recent trip to Portugal with the City Attorney and <br />Council Member Galvan. She said she will meet with the UPEC Director and plan <br />to have an evening at the UPEC Dining Hall during the summer at which time she <br />will be able to share the details, photographs, and video that were taken on the <br />trip. <br /> <br />Mayor Young also reported on the Cherry Festival which took place last weekend <br />and indicated there were no public safety events for the entire two days. She <br />indicated the City Council and audience owe the staff responsible for the event an <br />incredible amount of gratitude for their efforts on such a successful event. <br /> <br />Council Member Grant commented she shares the concerns expressed this evening <br />regarding traffic congestion on East 14th Street. She also shares the concerns <br />expressed regarding the proposed development on Darius Court. In conclusion, <br />she reported on her attendance at the Breakfast Roundtable on Housing sponsored <br />by the East Bay Housing Organization (EBHO). <br /> <br />B. Council Member Nardine commented that she, too, shared concerns regarding the <br />proposed development on Darius Court and questioned how the City might <br />regulate that type of proposal further. <br /> <br />The City Attorney responded that the City Council could only regulate the <br />development further if the Council were to consider changes in the current <br />Building Code. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine continued by commenting on the Cherry Festival, <br />indicating all the departments that had anything to do with the event deserve <br />accolades. She indicated those persons in attendance felt very comfortable and <br />safe. She applauded the Recreation and Parks Department, along with all the other <br />departments, who were responsible for the event. <br />
