Minute Order No. 2000-37, Motion to Add an Emergency Item to New <br />Business, Calling a Closed Session Regarding Potential Litigation (1 Case), <br />Immediately Following tonight's San Leandro Redevelopment Agency <br />Meeting. <br /> <br />The City Council approved the motion to add an emergency item, to conduct <br />a Closed Session Regarding Potential Litigation (1 Case), immediately <br />following the June 26, 2000, San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting. <br /> <br />M/S/C Glaze and Lothrop. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br /> <br />E. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br /> <br />There was no Closed Session held before the City Council/Redevelopment <br />Agency Meeting. <br /> <br />7. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Galvan commented on the decline in civility in the City Council <br />Chambers in recent months. He noted he is not against strong opinions and feels <br />public debate is good but wants to see the tension in the Chambers reduced. He <br />further stated persons need to stay focused on the issues and speak in a respectful <br />manner. He concluded by suggesting the City Council adopt a Code of Conduct <br />for meetings, which should be posted for all to be mindful of <br /> <br />Council Member Grant agreed with Council Member Galvan and noted her <br />sympathies to the families involved in the recent tragedy. She suggested there <br />needs to be some way for the community to come together to acknowledge the <br />loss and find healing. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine commented on the difficult past week for the City. She <br />commended the Police Department Officers and dispatchers for their service to our <br />community and noted the community needs time to heal. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze shared the comments of his fellow Council Members and agreed <br />there is a need for community healing. He agreed with comments made by Council <br />Member Galvan and stated people need to have respect for each other while <br />debating issues. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commented that he shares the concerns expressed by his <br />colleagues and noted he attended a recent service in which the church pastor <br />encouraged people to pause and reflect on the issue of violence in our community. <br />He expressed the need to improve the quality of life in our community and <br />suggested the City needs to revisit the use of the gun tax to promote non-violence. <br />
