PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person, for a total time period of one <br />hour. When you address the City Council, you should fill out a speaker card and <br />submit it to the City Clerk so the order of speakers may be determined and an official <br />record of names and addresses obtained. The public is invited to make any comments <br />related to Agenda items, or other items of public interest, at this time. <br /> <br />A. Audrey Albers, addressed the City Council regarding the home for battered <br />women where 20 women will be residing in her neighborhood. She indicated her <br />strong feelings that this type of facility does not belong in her neighborhood. <br /> <br />B. Shirley Moreno, addressed the City Council regarding the battered women's <br />shelter. She also voiced concerns with this facility being in her neighborhood. <br /> <br />C. Ann Pemberton, 1971 Doolittle Drive, addressed the City Council regarding <br />concerns with rent gouging in San Leandro. She indicated rents in her complex <br />have been increased 35%. <br /> <br />D. Bonnie Harrison, 1983 Doolittle Drive, addressed the City Council regarding the <br />huge increase in rent by the owner of the Doolittle apartments. She indicated the <br />owner is not doing any improvements to the inside of the apartments, even though <br />they are improving the outside, and stressed that the increase in rent is not <br />warranted. <br /> <br />E. Larry Norry, 2532 Williams Street, addressed the City Council regarding the <br />battered women's shelter and how their husbands are disturbing the neighborhood. <br />He indicated they are concerned about possible violence taking place. He <br />supported the early speakers' concerns and desire to see this operation moved. <br />He, too, expressed his concerns about increasing rents in San Leandro. <br /> <br />6. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. The City Manager commented that staff has not been made aware of any problems <br />with the Women's Shelter located in San Leandro but will contact the principals of <br />the operation, the Police Chief, and the Housing Department in order to get a <br />report back to the City Council and the persons who addressed concerns during <br />Public Comments. <br />
