<br />""'-~~- <br /> <br />APPENDIX A <br /> <br />City of San Leandro <br />Speed Hump Criteria and Process <br /> <br />Speed Hump Criteria <br /> <br />The following criteria must be met for the installation of speed hump(s): <br /> <br />1. The street or street segment shall be a two lane local residential or residential collector street as defined in the <br />Master Plan of City Streets and the overall pavement width shall not exceed 40 feet and be at least 750 feet in <br />length. <br />2. Traffic volumes shall be greater than 1,000 and less than 3,000 vehicles per day. <br />3. Street grade shall be 8 percent or less. <br />4. Street shall have posted speed limits of25 or 30 miles per hour only. <br />5. Street shall not be an A.C. Transit route. <br />6. Shall not be installed on primary emergency vehicle access routes designated by the Alameda County Fire <br />Department. Fire Department shall approve all proposed speed hump locations. <br />7. The critical speed shall be higher than the posted speed by a minimum of 6 miles per hour. <br /> <br />Location Criteria <br /> <br />The following requirements are for determining the appropriate location for the installation of speed humps. <br /> <br />1. Shall be located a minimum of 5 feet from driveways unless decided otherwise by the Senior Transportation <br />Engineer. <br />2. Shall be located at least 100 feet from an intersection unless decided otherwise by the Senior Transportation <br />Engineer. <br />3. Shall not be installed within horizontal curves of less than 300 feet centerline radius, and on vertical curves with <br />less than the minimum safe stopping sight distance. Humps shall be located on tangent rather than curve <br />sections. <br />4. Shall be installed only where the minimum safe stopping sight distance (as defined in AASHTO's "A Policy of <br />Geometric Design of Streets") can be provided. <br />5. Shall not be located over manholes, water valves or street monuments or within 25 feet of fire hydrants. <br />6. Should be located on property lines whenever possible. <br />7.
