The Police and Recreation Departments collaborated on a City~wide gang awareness and prevention program in conjunction with the schools. A public forum, parent workshops, campus support groups, and direct intervention to professional counselors were offered. Over 250 people attended a Gan Awareness Forum at the Main Libra . The Mayor's Office collaborated with the Models of Unity Project for a Race Unit Month and a Race Unit Picnic at Marina Park. The City offered the community a Cultural Diversity Program with workshops and group discussions on cultural diversity, prejudice and intolerance. The program included "Train the Trainer" where City staff became the community meetin facilitators. The Police and Recreation Departments sponsored a County~wide Hate Crime Prevention Worksho at the Main Libr The City began incorporating Advent, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa traditions into the annual Holida Tree Li tin event. A team of City staff was created as the Cultural Diversity Task Force, and the City offered the community a second series of Cultural Diversity workshops (Study Circles) on cultural diversity, racism and race relations, with Ci staff once a ain facilitatin the discussions. The Library, followed by the Recreation and Human Services Department, began hosting an annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day program for the communi to honor Dr. Kin and his life's accom lishments. The Library began offering an annual Lunar New Year Program. The Library began celebrantion of National Women's History Month. The City produced a "San Leandro Celebrates Diversity" pamphlet describing the City's commitment to celebrate diversity in programs and services. The Diversity Resource Directory was created to provide listings of local agencies, non~profit organizations, and government agencies that provide services to the community. Currently: The Directory has been reprinted in 1999 and 2003, adding churches and schools. Staff is getting quotes now to do a 2007 u date.
