<br />DRAFT MINUTES Page 12 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, San Leandro Parking Authority, San <br />Leandro Public Financing Authority, and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-June 18,2007 <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented on the amazing comeback of the Cherry Festival and <br />she thanked Carolyn Knudtson and the Recreation & Human Services staff for the great job. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented on the San Leandro Aquatics Center, noting that <br />enrollment in swimming classes is also booming. She commented on the loss of 84 Lumber, <br />and reported that she attended the 12Sth anniversary celebration of Larson Bros. Lumber. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens joined in the accolades for the Cherry Festival. Councilmember <br />Stephens commented on the vast number of City staff that perform their day-to-day work <br />without notice or praise. Councilmember Stephens noted that he has observed them doing <br />repairs, trimming trees and other important functions for the City, and he requested that <br />compliments be conveyed to them. <br /> <br />Councilmember ProIa reported that at the last Marina Committee meeting, it was <br />recommended that the next Marina Town Hall Meeting be held on July 19 at the Marina <br />Community Center and that a City Council work session be held on July 30. Councilmember <br />ProIa reported that on June 22 at 7:00 p.m., Assemblymember Mary Hayashi will speak on <br />the status of healthcare reform at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hayward, and on <br />June 30 at 1 :30 at the San Leandro Library, Lenny Goldberg will speak on reform of <br />Proposition 13. Councilmember ProIa reported that he attended both the AC Transit BRT <br />meeting and the John Muir Middle School graduation on behalf of Mayor Santos. <br />Councilmember ProIa commented on the living wage, which he stated was very important for <br />working families. Councilmember ProIa requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in <br />memory of Laura Vecchiarelli, who was like a second mother to him. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that he gave the commencement speech at the Lincoln High School <br />and Adult School graduation. He stated that he hoped the City would participate in the <br />Sausage & Suds event, which is scheduled for October 7. Mayor Santos commented that <br />tonight's meeting would be adjourned in the memory of Tom Kitayama, former mayor of <br />Union City; Ifeanyi Ezeh, a 16-year old who died after collapsing suddenly during a soccer <br />game; and Laura Vecchiarelli. <br /> <br />13.
