Livermore, Kathleen

From: Susan Patrick [SPatrick@sftc.org]
Sent: Monday, June 04,20072:10 PM
To: Livermore, Kathleen
Subject: [POSSIBLE SPAM] Grocery Outlet at former Albertson' site
Importance: Low

Dear Ms. Livermore; I live in Estudillo estates and would like to add my objection to the others who do not want a
"bargains only" (their slogan), discount supermarket in the vacant building that formerly housed the Albertson's
supermarket.

The applicants on behalf of the Grocery "bargains only" Outlet (GO) chain are being deceptive when they argue
that theirs is a neighborhood market. I have been to the GOs in Hayward, Oakland and Berkeley to make sure I
know of what I speak: it is not a neighborhood establishment; it is a discount food and sundry operation on a large
scale. It is designed to attract large numbers of shoppers which is why they want this site. Easy on and out
access to a large parking lot and store.

San Leandro is a city with a lot of potential to improve and enhance the downtown shopping and working
environment and combine it with multiple unit housing. A chain discount supermarket is not an enhancement;
rather it is a disincentive to builders and buyers looking for a quality environment. Certainly we can do better and
we must if we are to improve the look and livability of our downtown. Thank you

Susan Patrick
986 Lee Ave.

6/712007
