Livermore, Kathleen

From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:

Steve Coldiron [steve@jocoto.com]
Monday, June 04, 2007 1 :59 PM
Livermore, Kathleen
[POSSIBLE SPAM] Old Albertson's Store

Importance:

Low

Hello Ms. Livermore,

I dropping you a brief email because I will not be able to attend the public hearing
scheduled for this Thursday evening at 7:00pm - but I understand that this session will
take input on the matter of the former Albertson's location on Juana & E14th.

I also understand that Grocery Outlet is appealing the city's decision to deny a permit
for their store because it didn't fit in with the city's desire for a "neighborhood
grocery store" or some other business more in keeping with the Transit Oriented Downtown
Strategy that has been shaping the direction of the central business district.

I would strongly urge the city to stick to it's guns on this issue because I believe that
you have made the right call on this one. I believe that allowing a discount grocery
outlet store into a location that previously featured a major grocery chain (albeit a
rather poor example of an Albertsons) would be a major step backwards and would be
damaging to the progress and revitalization of the area. I think that the city can do
better and should strive hard for a business that will compliment the current efforts and
add to the improving character of the CBD. This will ultimately create a win for the
citizens of San Leandro and act as a benefit for the other businesses in the area.

Thanks,

Steve Coldiron
900 Lee Ave.
San Leandro, CA

1
