Livermore, Kathleen

From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:

Jim McVay & Cathy Caputo Ocmcvay@gmail.com]
Wednesday, June 06, 2007 6:11 PM
Livermore, Kathleen
[POSSIBLE SPAM] Upcoming meeting re: Grocery Outlet

Importance:

Low

Dear Kathy,

I understand that the city council will be discussing the former Albertson's site at the
upcoming June 7th meeting. I will be out of town so I can't attend. But I wanted to let
you know how I feel.

I know that the Grocery Outlet has applied to open a store at this location and I am
strongly opposed to allowing them to do so. The last thing our city needs is another
cheap discount store. As you know, that location is a prime location for our city's
future development. I strongly urge you to oppose the Grocery Outlet's proposal to be
treated as a neighborhood market
-- an idea that is clearly ridiculous on it's face. The Grocery Outlet is no more a
neighborhood market than Wal-Mart would be.

I know that most of my neighbors feel the same way about this site. Please make every
effort to get an upscale grocery -- preferably one that sells some organic food -- to move
into this location.

Has anyone approached the people who own Farmer Joe's in Oakland about opening another
store? Or Berkeley Bowl?

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Catherine Caputo
818 Collier Drive

1
