JONES & SONS, INC. FOR SENIOR <br />CENTER PHASE 1 IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 06-210-18-116 <br /> <br />This project provides for the construction of the parking lot and landscape on Eden Township <br />Healthcare District (District) property that will eventually serve the Senior Center facility and the <br />installation of traffic signals at the access to East 14th Street. <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder, O.C. Jones & Sons, Inc., in the amount of <br />$1,557,000. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The planned senior center project, located at 13909 East 14th Street, consists of a 20,650 square <br />foot building and associated parking and street improvements intended to provide senior citizen <br />programs and also function as the City's Emergency Operations Center. The new senior center <br />facility will have a 4,350 square foot main hall, kitchen, computer room, crafts room, exercise <br />room, two classrooms, and a staff area. <br /> <br />The site improvements include a 229-space parking lot, monument signage, landscaping and <br />signalization of the entry from East 14th Street. <br /> <br />The senior center project is being constructed in two phases due to contractual limitations and <br />design constraints. The purchase and sale agreement with the District requires that the City <br />complete Phase 1 entrance and parking lot improvements by June 2008. The Phase 1 <br />improvements to be constructed under this contract consist of: <br /> <br />. 172-space northern parking lot and entry road <br />. Traffic signal at the entrance (138th Avenue and East 14th Street) and East 14th Street <br />improvements within Caltrans' right-of-way <br />. Landscape improvements <br />. Joint Senior Center/San Leandro Hospital monument sign <br />
