Renaming of the Marina Committee to Shoreline-Marina Committee. <br /> <br />. Minute Order No. 2007-072, Motion Renaming the Marina <br />Committee to Shoreline-Marina Committee. (1156) <br /> <br />The City Council renamed the Marina Committee to Shoreline- <br />Marina Committee. <br /> <br />M1S/C Starosciak and Proia. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that this weekend the swim season was closed out in <br />San Leandro. He commended Councilmember Souza for running the swim meet at Chabot <br />College. Councilmember Gregory announced that the San Leandro Swim Team took second <br />place at the meet. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented on the sound wall meeting, thanking staff for their patience in <br />working with the very energetic participants at the meeting. She expressed appreciation to the <br />City Clerk for having all the minutes from the previous meetings and committee meetings in <br />the agenda packet, and to the Police Department for the logo shirt. Vice Mayor Grant <br />commented on a recent San Francisco Chronicle article on the rise in the number of Bay Area <br />foreclosures, noting the article contained some fascinating anecdotes. She noted that it <br />highlights the importance of the Council's discussion on housing. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she would like to see the City pursue more affordable <br />rental housing for families. <br /> <br />Councilmember ProIa commended the Police Department on its handling of the Waste <br />Management lockout, and he commented that the Police Department's overtime costs should <br />be billed to Waste Management. Councilmember ProIa commented that the City is far behind <br />in its ABAG regional housing needs assessment targets, particularly in low-income units, and <br />he expressed support for increasing the inclusionary housing requirement from 15% to 20%. <br />Councilmember ProIa commented on the strike at Valley Power Systems by workers over the <br />loss of pensions and fringe benefits. Councilmember ProIa stated that felt the City should not <br />patronize Valley Power and that if requested, bullhorn usage should be allowed at that <br />location. Councilmember ProIa commented on a news article regarding repeated grass fires in <br />a neighborhood and asked if the Council could get a report from the Police or Fire <br />Department on this issue. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that he will be addressing the San Leandro Breakfast Club at the <br />Englander on Wednesday on his role in the Waste Management lockout. Mayor Santos <br />commented that he received confirmation from Congressman Pete Stark's office that the $2.5 <br />million in dredging money and the $150,000 for the Seruor Center is in the House budget, <br />
