CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. <br /> <br />A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br /> <br />Mayor Santos led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />B. Roll Call <br /> <br />PRESENT: Members Grant, Gregory, Prola, Souza, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Santos <br /> <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> <br /> 2. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS <br /> <br />State Assembly Member Mary Hayashi and San Leandro resident Jacqueline Coats addressed <br />the City Council regarding Item 8.F. on the agenda. <br /> <br />Assembly Member Hayashi described the plight of Jacqueline Coats, whose husband, Marlin, <br />was posthumously granted the Carnegie Medal by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for <br />attempting to rescue two children from drowning at Ocean Beach. <br />now faces <br />deportation. Assembly Member Hayashi described the efforts she has undertaken to secure <br />permanent resident status for Mrs. Coats, including the development of a website, <br />www.helpjackie.info. <br /> <br />Assembly Member Hayashi urged the Council to adopt the resolution supporting her effort <br />along with U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein to obtain permanent resident status for Mrs. Coats. <br /> <br /> <br />
