The 50 developers were selected based on their expertise in commercial construction, financial strength and/or their knowledge of San Leandro. The City of Long Beach was also contacted for recommendation of a few Southern California developers of similar projects. Their names are included on the list as well. The Committee questioned why the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce is on the developer list. Assistant to the City Manager Battenberg responded that they are receiving a courtesy copy and that the list will be updated to reflect this. The Committee then requested that the Building & Construction Trades and the Central Labor Council also receive courtesy copies. Councilmember Starosciak asked that Fisher Brothers, who constructed a large project in Oakland, be added to the list. She additionally stated that she believes there is value in a developer having local knowledge. Councilmember Prola questioned if the City has a program to encourage local hires. City Manager Jermanis responded that there is no official program but contractors, such as the one who was retained to construct the Public Safety monument, frequently use local hires on local projects. 3. Public Comments Gerd Marggraff asked for an update on Federal funding for dredging. City Manager Jermanis responded that Congress passed a continuing resolution for October expenditures which does not include any earmarks for special projects. The City should know more in November and an update will be provided at the November 13, 2007 Committee meeting. Bo Johanson asked the City to contact the Redwood City and Benecia developers. Interim Community Development Manager Sims responded that they are both on the developer list. 4. Committee Member Comments None 5.
