Highlights City and San Lorenzo Unified School District Liaison Committee Page 2 <br />meeting, the Committee could review the design drawings and staff will provide <br />responses to the Committee's questions. <br />2. Discussion Regarding Da on Playground Memorandum of Understanding <br />Mr. Jermanis reported that the MOU between the City and the School District allows <br />for the public's use of the play apparatus at Dayton School after school hours. Mr. <br />Jermanis expressed concern that enjoyment of the playground's use by the public <br />should not come at the risk of damage to school property, and he stated that the City <br />would be willing to modify the agreement. <br />Mr. Ferraro reported that there have been problems with vandalism at the school, and <br />stated that he would prefer to have the playground locked after school hours. <br />Committee members commented that they have either used or observed the use of the <br />playground and field after hours for various activities. Councilmember Souza <br />expressed concern that the community is accustomed to having access to the site, and <br />there maybe issues if this arrangement is changed. Ms. Knudtson stated that it is <br />preferable that reservations for use of the Dayton School facilities be made through <br />the School District rather than through the City. Mr. Jermanis stated that he and Dr. <br />Byas would discuss this matter further. <br />3. Discussion Re a~~ Status of District Surplus Properties <br />Mr. Jermanis recalled that at the last Committee meeting, former Superintendent <br />Arnie Glassberg commented that the District would be identifying surplus facilities. <br />Mr. Jermanis asked the District to provide an update. <br />Dr. Byas reported on the following facility-related items: the District is working on a <br />long-term lease with Kip Academy; no action is being taken by the Board on a BMX <br />park at the Adult School due to District and community concerns; a feasibility study <br />is being performed on El Portal, and an RFP will be sent out soon; and the District is <br />doing a 15-year projection of its school facility needs. Dr. Byas stated that the <br />District may go out for another bond measure in a year or so, and may approach the <br />Council for its support. <br />Councilmember Souza stated the need for the City to communicate with the School <br />District regarding its plans for growth and the effects on student generation. Dr. <br />Byas expressed interest in having access to the City's GIS system. Mr. Jermanis <br />stated that the City would work with the School District to allow them access to the <br />system. <br />4. Discussion Re ag rding Student Education Testing Goals <br />Dr. Byas reported that the School District utilizes comparison districts to assess its <br />relative progress in raising test scores. He is considering using higher performing <br />districts such as Piedmont and San Ramon as comparison districts for San Lorenzo. <br />Mr. Diolazo reported on the District's special education early intervention efforts. <br />He described the Response to Intervention (RTI) program, which is designed to <br />
