MINUTES Page 13 City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-November 5, 2007 Mayor Santos commented that he also attended the marvelous Manor Library event. He concurred with the need for improvements at Stenzel Park. Mayor Santos commented that he met today with 4`" graders from Madison Elementary School at the History Museum to help with a program which teaches children the history of San Leandro. As part of the program, the students put on a play about San Leandro history. On Thursday, he will meet with 3rd graders at James Monroe Elementary School, after which he will hold his monthly Coffee with the Mayor meeting at Maui Wowi. Regarding Eden Hospital, Mayor Santos stated that he has had discussions with Eden Hospital administration, and they have made a commitment to keep San Leandro Hospital open for at least two years. He has expressed to them his prime responsibility and desire to keep the hospital open, as it serves thousands of Medicare and Medical patients each year. Mayor Santos indicated that if there is consensus of the Council, he could call a special work session on Thursday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. with the hospital administration. There was consensus of the Council to do so. Mayor Santos commented that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of Mike Kessler, who introduced a "No Room for Racism" program to the City's Human Relations Committee and City Council a few years ago. Tonight's meeting would also be adjourned in memory of former City Councilmember Joseph Gancos, who was appointed to the City Council in 1968. City Hall flags were flown at half staff today in his honor. Mayor Santos reported that Vice Mayor Grant attended the memorial service for San Leandro High School student Greg Ballard. 13.
