DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 10 <br />November 19, 2007 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza commented on the wonderful Veterans Day event and the number of <br />entries in the parade. She reported that she visited the Port of Oakland for the unveiling of <br />their new solar panels. Councilmember Souza commented on the wonderful time she had on <br />her birthday during the conference in New Orleans. <br />Councilmember Stephens wished his Council colleagues and City staff a happy <br />Thanksgiving. He commented on the state of the economy and the State budget deficit. <br />Councilmember Stephens stated that he was distressed by the recent oil spill in the Bay. He <br />expressed hope that at the next Council retreat, the Council could focus on the environment. <br />Councilmember Stephens suggested the Council consider a policy on plastic bags, Styrofoam, <br />and the installation of solar panels. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he read in the Senior Commission minutes of October <br />18 that Councilmembers will meet with Congressman Stark to seek funding for the Senior <br />Center, and he expressed interest in being part of the delegation. Councilmember Prola <br />commented on the recent work session on Eden and San Leandro Hospitals. He expressed <br />concerned that Sutter will close San Leandro <br />when the new Eden Hospital in Castro Valley is built. He pledged to do what he could to <br />help San Leandro Hospital acute care stay open. Councilmember Prola announced that a <br />strike was averted at Waste Management when the machinists settled their contract. He <br />thanked the City staff involved in Veterans Day flag raising ceremony and parade, and <br />commented that it was a tremendous success. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that the City Council will hold a retreat early in 2008. The Council <br />will discuss its budget priorities, as well as the issues raised by Councilmember Stephens. He <br />commented that he believes the Council has a duty to do what it can to keep San Leandro <br />Hospital open. <br /> <br /> <br />13.
