CITY AND SAN LEANDRO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT LIAISON COMMITTEE December 5, 2007 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. San Leandro City Hall 835 East 14t~' Street San Leandro, California (Sister Cities Gallery) HIGHLIGHTS Committee Members: Mayor Tony Santos, Vice Mayor Surlene Grant, Councilmember Michael Gregory, Board President Ray Davis, Board Member Stephen Cassidy, Board Member Lisa Hague City Staff Present: City Manager John Jermanis, Assistant City Manager Steve Hollister, Recreation Manager Micki Cronin SLUSD Staff Present: Superintendent Christine Lim, Assistant Superintendent Song Chin- Bendib, Facilities Manager Mike Murphy, Gerald Shorlin, Kathy Frates, High School Facilities Manager Greg Dyer, Robin Mitchell SLUSD, Leroy Smith, Jack Nelson SLHS, Don Billodeau The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. by Mayor Santos. 1. Continued Discussion Regarding_Shape-Up San Leandro Program -District Application for Children and "Balanced Project Grant" Superintendent Lim informed the committee that the teacher's union was approached on their participation in the program which would include in-class instruction. The union declined to participate and the district, therefore, will not pursue the grant. Councilmember Gregory regretted that the grant was not going to be pursued, but commented that the City and School District should continue pursuing local measures. Mayor Santos pointed out that the City used to have recreational and inter-mural Ieagues up until the 80's. 2. Continued Discussion Regarding 9`t' Grade Campus Gymnasium City Manager Jermanis reported that he examined the possibility of City Redevelopment participation in a portion of the gymnasium, assuming that it was ajoint-use facility. Using information from the Engineering and Transportation Department, he believes that a 50% City contribution would be approximately $2.2 million. President
